CONTAMINATED SOIL REMEDIATION

Project Description:
Contamination known to be present from Delaware Air National Guard leaking underground storage tanks required remediation for tank removal closure. Action Environmental, a state approved remediation consultant was retained to assist the Contractor in contaminated soils delineation, excavation, separation, and staging for bioremediation, prior to developing a closure plan for regulatory acceptance.

The remediation technique selected was overexcavation coupled with ex-situ bioremediation . Contaminated soils were separated utilizing a photovac microtip photo-ionization detector, geoprobe slam bar and visual inspection.

Soils removal continued until field instrumentation indicated that target cleandown levels were achieved.

Contaminated soil samples from the sidewalls and bottom were then taken to an analytical laboratory for verification of cleanliness.

A final report was prepared which included a site drawing indicating the limits of excavation required for contaminated soils removal, an inspector' s log of events, final analytical results, Observations, Conclusions and Recommendations.
